No. People in Thailand think that eating cats and dogs is gross. After all, there are so many diseases that could come from eating meat from cats or dogs such as the outbreak of SARS. The prospect of getting diseases from eating cats or dogs scare people in Thailand from eating cats and dogs.

People in Bangkok are more civilized than people in the countryside of Thailand. In Bangkok, people are much much less likely to eat weird food whereas if you go up North or South, you are likely to see weird food or insects eaten that you won’t see in Bangkok. |
As for cats, people in Thailand prefer to keep dogs as pets. Cats are often found on the street, astray and not cute looking at all. Cats in Thailand are not as cute as fluffy cats in the US so people are less likely to have the as pets.

They are often beaten up, starved and had nowhere to go but to rummage through rubbish that they could find. Most people in Thailand grow up seeing street dogs and not the puff balls, cute pet dogs that people in the US are used to.
