Counting in Thai – 1,000 upwards

As with counting multiple of 100 in Thai, you can use the same rule to count multiples of 1,000. The base words in Thai you need to know are:

Number
1,000	=	พัน	Phan
10,000	=	หมื่น	Meaun
100,000	=	แสน	Saan
1,000,000	=	ล้าน	Laan

Counting in Thai – other numbers

Now that we have learned how to count some multiple of 10s numbers, it’s time to count other numbers.

The rules for Counting in Thai in the Thai languagge are as follows:

When the numbers from 10 to 100 end with the number one, instead of using the word Neung (หนึ่ง), use the word เอ็ด or et instead. Examples are as follows:

5	10	1	= 51
ห้า	สิบ	เอ็ด	ห้าสิบเอ็ด	Haa Sib Et
9	10	1	= 91
เก้า	สิบ	เอ็ด	เก้าสิบเอ็ด	Gao Sib Et

When counting numbers in Thai from 100 upward, use Neung (หนึ่ง) and not เอ็ด or et . For example,

2	100	4	=204
สอง	ร้อย	สี่	สองร้อยสี่	Song Roi See
6	100	7	=607
หก	ร้อย	เจ็ด	หกร้อยเจ็ด	Hok Roi Jed
