How to get from Bangkok to Chiang Mai by Car

Getting from Bangkok to Chiang Mai by car is time consuming because Bangkok is far from Chiangmai. However, if you want to spend all that time driving from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, seeing tons of sceneries on the way, then below is how to get to Chiangmai from Bangkok by car.

From Bangkok, drive on Highway No. 1 (Phahonyothin) to Highway No. 32 passing the provinces of:

  • Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
  • Ang Thong
  • Nakhon Sawan

Then take Highway No. 117 to Phitsanuloke and drive on to Highway No. 11 to Lampang, Lamphun and Chiang Mai.

Chiang Mai is about 695 kilometers journey from Bangkok.

Alternatively, you can drive from Bangkok to Nakhon Sawan and then take Highway No. 1 passing Kamphaeng Phet, Tak, Lampang, and to Chiang Mai. The journey from Bangkok to Chiang Mai on the road can take 10 hours or more depending on the traffic and if you get lost, it can take substantially longer to get to Chiang Mai.
