Khum Lanna

If you want to learn Thai cooking, many tour companies offer cooking lessons tour at Khum Lanna. However, if you are staying in Chiang Mai, you may want to choose a closer destination to learn Thai cooking than Khum Lanna which is in Phrao district of Chiang Mai, closer to Chiang Rai than Chiang Mai. It takes about 2 hours to travel from Chiang Mai to Khum Lanna in Phrao district, Thailand. There are plenty of cooking classes that are very good in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Some are even better than Khum Lanna cooking classes.

The attraction of Khum Lanna in Phrao Thailand

Khum Lanna is attractive for some tourists because it is in the middle of no where. There are literally only fields around Khum Lanna. So, if you want time away from civilization then Khum Lanna may be for you. However, if you just want to learn Thai cooking and still have luxury, don't go to Khum Lanna.

Cooking class tour at Khum Lanna

The tour is run by the people at Khum Lanna themselves. So, wherever you book your tour, they have agreement with Khum Lanna of revenue sharing so on the day of your tour, Khum Lanna will send a car (they may refer to it as Limousine but it is not) to pick you up at your hotel. They are also not good at communicating with you about the time of pick up, etc. The driver may not speak English, nor good Thai. Don't be surprised if the driver only speaks dialects or hill tribe languages.

Once you arrive at Khum Lanna, 2 hours later, you will be dropped off at the front and there may not be anyone coming to greet or take care of you. They just take things easy over there. So, if you expect a tour guide, a structure or sticking to the schedule of any kind, be warned.
