Koh Samui: Chaweng

On Koh Samui, Chaweng beach is the most famous beach on the island. The Chaweng beach is supposed to be full of powdered white sand. However, in reality, the sand on Chaweng beach is not that white and the beach is not clean either. Some parts of Chaweng beach is cleaner than others but overall the sand quality on Chaweng beach is not as good as the sand quality on other smaller and less polluted islands around Koh Samui.

Koh Samui (Ko Samui or Kho Samui) is a small island so you can technically walk all over Chaweng and Chaweng beach in a relatively short amount of time. Alongside Chaweng beach is Chaweng town where all the shops and stores are. The Chaweng strip is often full of tourists. There are more European tourists than American, possibly because European tourists tend to enjoy nature life more than Americans who usually seek luxury, unlikely to find in Koh Samui currently and also not in Chaweng. Except the tourism industry which keeps many businesses on Koh Samui in the black, other parts of Koh Samui are largely countryside with few developed aspects.

Chaweng street on Koh Samui

Koh Samui Chaweng

Cheweng town has a main street where all the shops for tourists are. Other smaller streets are so undeveloped that it is best to not walk there or drive there if you don't have to. Koh Samui 's Chaweng 's residents know where to go for cheaper goods than this main strip because most prices are designed for tourists rather than the locals. Most shops on Koh Samui 's Chaweng stay open till almost midnight daily. In the morning most places are not open. There are fast food restaurants such as McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King and even Starbucks so tourists can feel right at home. The street of Chaweng is often very crowded and is a one way road. You can walk the whole Chaweng strip in about half an hour.
