In this bad economy, there are many airlines that have started charging baggage fees. The baggage rules for Thai Airways International are outlined below. Note that they may not be up to date, as the rules are changing more frequently. Most international flights do not charge baggage fees for the first two pieces of luggage.

Why some airlines charge baggage fees?

For domestic flights within the US, many airlines charge fees from $15 to $50 per baggage. They started charging the fees when oil prices were high but now that they are low again, these airlines have not dropped the fees because they are not in good financial health and need the cash to keep their businesses going.

Baggage Rules for Thai Airways

When flying from the US to Thailand, a passenger is allowed two pieces of luggage. Each piece of luggage must only weight 50lb. That’s the total of 100lb per person. However, if each piece of luggage weights more than 50lb, the airline will charge a fee even though the total of the two pieces of luggage weight less than 100lb. Many people think that they can have a baggage that weights 60lb and another weighs 40lb. This is not the case.

Carryon Bag Rules for Thai Airways

Carryon bags must weight 15lb (changed to 10lb) or less. Each person is allowed one carryon bag and a small purse or handbag. Check the dimension of your carryon bag because it needs to go through airport scanners.
