Most airlines do not have direct flights to Thailand. Only Thai Airways International has direct flights to Bangkok Thailand.

How to fly to Thailand directly from the USA?

The only hub that has direct flights to Thailand from the US is Los Angeles in California. So, if you live or want to fly from another state in the US, you will need to fly to LA first then fly to Thailand directly. Many people do not want to go to Los Angeles if they live in cities where there are not many flights to Los Angeles. It is not the most convenient hub for domestic flights but if you do not want to change your flights in Tokyo, Japan or Korea, then it is what you have to do.

If you are used to using online booking websites to book your ticket to Thailand, you might want to consider going directly to the Thai Airways website where you can book your tickets to Thailand directly. You will also see the seating arrangement and availability.

Currently, Thai Airways does not fly to the US from Thailand on Monday and Wednesday so if you are looking to fly on those days, you will not be able to find direct flights. Thai airlines usually leave the US (Los Angeles CA) at night and arrives in Bangkok either at night time a day later or in the morning two days later.

How Cheap are the Return Direct Flight Tickets to Thailand?

In 2008-2009, tickets to Thailand can cost just over $1,000 (tax and fees included). The Thai Airways tickets cost as little as $1,200 per person (base fare $965). Taxes and fees are over $200 per person so don’t be surprised if you see the fare goes up when you are about to buy.

The cheapest tickets have restrictions. For example, if you want to change the outgoing date on your ticket, it costs $100 to change. But, it is free to change the date on the return ticket. Since there are not many flights, it is best to book as early as you can to ensure that you get the seat on the flight. The sooner you book, the best seat you have. If you book late, the flight may be fully booked. If the flight is not full, you will get a seat but it may not be a good seat. It could be in the back rows, in the middle, not aisle seat or window seat.
