How to say I Love You in Thai?

There are many ways to say I Love You in Thai. Below are the different ways of saying I Love You in Thai. Which way you choose to say I Love You depends on who you say it to. In English you can say I love you to anyone if you love them but in Thai, you need to pay more attention to whom you are saying I Love You to. For example you need to say I love you to your mom differently from saying I love you to your wife and husband.

Rak = Love

First of all the word Love in Thai is “Rak”. In Thai, the word Love has strong meaning and you cannot say it lightly. If you are not totally committed, then use the word “like” or “Chorb” instead of Rak or Love.

I Love You in Thai

Once you have established that you want to say I Love You, then you can insert the subject and object into the sentence with the word love “Rak” in the middle. For example [I] Love [You] is [I] Rak [You]. Below are different versions of saying the word I love you in Thai.

Phom Rak Khun

This is a very formal way for a man to say I love you in Thai to a woman. It is generally used for a couple when a man respects the woman alot. You cannot use this version of I love you in Thai to say it to your parents or teachers. The word “Khun” at the end of the sentence indicates that you want to have a romantic relationship with the person you say I love you to. If you want to say I love you to your mom or dad or teacher, etc, you need to specify whom you love such as:

Phom Rak Khun Mae = I (for a boy or man) love Mom.

Phom Rak Khun Khue = I (for a boy or man) love Teacher.

Chan Rak Khun /Thur

A woman, girl or even a boy or man (informal) can say Chan Rak [someone]. If a man uses Chan instead of Phom then he is being less formal but it is less romantic to say Chan instead of Phom for a boy or man. At the end of the sentence, you can say Khun or Thur. Khun is more formal and means the same thing as Thur (less formal).
